Fairfield Harbour is a community that celebrates the holidays with gusto! Here are a few of the sights and sounds of the holiday season in Fairfield Harbour.
Thanksgiving: For the past ten years, Joan and Bruce Shattuck have organized the hosting of marines to families in Fairfield Harbour on Thanksgiving. A bus brings in the “fresh out of boot camp” marines from Cherry Point to Fairfield Harbour Community Center where they are greeted by their host family. For many of these marines, it is their first holiday away from home. This year Bruce and Joan lined up 110 marines for 35 families and there is a waiting list of families wanting to host the marines. Each family hosts 2-6 marines. The bus arrives at 11am and the marines board the bus to return to base at 5pm with a full belly and an uplifting day of thanks and appreciation.
Toys for Tots: Fairfield residents enjoy giving back to the community through the annual Toys for Tots program. Toys are dropped off at the POA Office. The Marines from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point collect the toys for distribution on Friday, December 16.
Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club Flotilla
On Saturday, 12/10, the Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club held the annual Flotilla. Members take special care to decorate their boats in the spirit of Christmas. The boats then raft up in the inner harbor and sing Christmas carols. After a chilly night on the water, members congregated at the community center to enjoy a dinner of chili and all the fixings.
